Long lost New Teen Titans graphic novel – "Games" by Pérez and Wolfman escapes from DC Limbo!
The Baltimore Comic Con George Pérez panel began with some exciting news for longtime New Teen Titans aficionados. New Teen Titans co-creator Marv Wolfman apparently found the long lost plot to the Titans graphic novel entitled “Games” and it is in production to be released just in time to catch the end of the 30th Anniversary of the New Teen Titans. Originally planned for a 1990 release, the book will be a flashback to that classic era and is now scheduled for October of 2010 and will run the originally planned 120 pages.
As much as I LOVED their work back then, there are a few flaws with this… I’m not looking forward to seeing Donna Troy in that god-awful Troia get up again, and Danny Chase has always been the Titans very own Scrappy Doo (or Dawn Summers) to me. It still will end up an eagerly anticipated part of my buy pile though.
Here are some of the original pages. The first 2 pages were first seen in Sketch Magazine (#10) and are part of the EXCELLENT repository of all things Titanic… TitansTower.
The roughs were originally published at Vu’s George Pérez Website and are part of the detailed history of the development and shelving of the project that can be found at TitansTower.
The first five pages had already been drawn and inked by Pérez, while the next 25 were inked years ago by Al Vey. Pérez also related that DC would be resurrecting the comic book dimensions from when the book was initially drawn and plotted to print "Games." As Pérez begins to draw the final 90 pages over the next year, Mike Perkins ("Captain America") will ink his pages. Perkins is now Marvel-exclusive but had a waiver in his contract that would allow him to help Pérez finish this Titans graphic novel.
This is not the first time that Games has been slated for publication. DC has threatened to publish it before… first it was due in 1990, than in 2005 and now in 2010. Lets hope the 3rd time is the charm!
