Dark Avengers #12: in the hands of The Molecule Man

OK, one issue after Victoria Hand is revealed as a lesbian and already she’s been stripped down to her underwear like a by a lascivious and nearly omnipotent villain like a horny nerd undressing his little sisters dolls. Thoughts?

The explosive smash hit series from Brian Bendis and Mike Deodato continues!! The Dark Avengers are pitted against a foe they cannot defeat: A man with the power over every molecule in the world! Norman can’t talk his way out of this one as the world gets turned upside down and no joke…someone dies. For reelz!!

Mighty Avengers #32 – The Coming Darkness…

I love the way Hank Pym confided in Clint Barton last issue that he’s known that the Scarlet Witch isn’t who she claims since his goggles retina scan exposed her. Hopefully Lady Loki has no idea he is on to her…

The throwdown you’ve been waiting for– and that Loki, God of Mischief– has been scheming towards: THE MIGHTY AVENGERS versus THE DARK AVENGERS! Hank Pym’s team has tried their best to be a shining light in the world of Dark Reign but this might be the time that light gets snuffed out! Special appearance by the MIGHTY THOR!

Taylor Lautner sure knows how to handle a staff!

Which is good, because from his monologue, New Moon’s hot wolf cub Taylor Lautner is not really a natural comedian. Though in his defense – this was NOT great material. Lautner’s football and show choir sketches were just unfunny. The Edward vs Jacob argument was amusing. The funniest sketches were unfortunately Lautnerless… the PGA Tour’s new No Tiger No Problem campaign makes me laugh just thinking about it… and Weekend Update had its moments as usual (with the exception of the painfully long reservation stand up bit – ouch). I think SNL should have a limit of just 1 sketch per show about laughing at someone performing badly.

I saw New Moon the other day. Urge to see his bod and the FX won out. It was a good popcorn movie and perhaps a better movie than a book as it seemed to spend a lot less time focusing on Bella’s angsty emo misery. I could have used more wolf pack time. We’ll see more of him in the next 2 movies which I’m sure they’ll push out at top speed to get them in theatres while people are still interested.

The Supernatural bromance

For those who watched Supernatural last night… do you think that future Sam (actually Lucifer in Sam’s hot bod) seemed more than a bit stereotypical with his speech patterns, dandyesque white suit and rose cultivating?

The Siege begins NOW!

Well it seems that the lesson Norman Osborn took away from the Marvel U’s Civil War was that you can sell anything to the public as long as you scare them first with a sufficiently tragic instigating event. So the Green Goblin has decide to set public opinion against Asgard by setting up an unsuspecting Volstagg with the U-Foes.

Beginning with the ravaging affects of Avengers Disassembled and following the aftermaths of House of M, Civil War and Secret Invasion, culminating with the evil Reign of Norman Osborn, the Marvel Universe has been left with its greatest villains holding more power and control than ever before. On the brink of madness, Osborn, in his final bid to take total control, targets the final obstacle in his mission…Asgard.

Events are set in motion forcing our heroes to put aside the deep rifts that have grown over the past seven years. Opposing them stand a horde of evil that has begun to take down the gods of the Golden Realm! SIEGE will rock the foundations of every super hero, villain and team in the Marvel Universe. As an era ends, one word will ring above all others…”SIEGE.”

I’m sure Stormin Norman plans to sweep right on in there using his “mystery ally” and easily round up a bunch of immortals, but his plans may be derailed by the reunion of Marvel’s own Trinity – Thor, Iron Man and captain America. They’ll wipe the floor with him and his “Dark” Avengers.

X-Necrosha – The Gathering ONE SHOT

If you were wondering exactly how Selene assembled her little gang of death dealers, than this one shot should fill in a few blanks for you…

Selene’s Inner Circle stand revealed… Wither, Mortis, Senyaka, Eli Bard and Blink. But what led Selene to gather some of the deadliest mutants in the world? Why would one of the X-Men’s students join her? Who is Mortis? How is Blink alive? The stories of the Black Queen’s death dealers are told in this anthology one-shot by some of today’s hottest artists!

Necrosha - The Gathering ONE SHOT Necrosha - The Gathering ONE SHOT Necrosha - The Gathering ONE SHOT

This collection of short tales whets my appetite but still left me with a lot of unanswered questions… Will Selene be banned from the Hellfire Club (which looked more like a Fridays or Hard Rock Cafe than an exclusive private club) for killing the help? How did Selene know where to look for Blink? (short answer = sorcery) Why didn’t Emma or Jean detect her in years past? How did Selene transform the innocent child she was into a murderous puppet? (short answer = sorcery) Why didn’t Lois London wonder why her half-sister Dazzler was suddenly a strange brunette? (again short answer = sorcery)

Dark X-Men #2 – The return of Nate Grey a.k.a. X-Man!

I must say that the combination of Mystique’s new Jean Grey persona and blue and white Dark X-Men uniform is sheer brilliance. A beautiful homage to her original white belted tunic costume. I’m SO happy that Nate’s coming back to 616 continuity, but I hope he doesn’t end up a prisoner in Norman Osborne’s “Omega Machine.”

X-MAN, A.K.A. NATE GRAY IS BACK! Sadly, the X-Men that he first encounters are Norman Osborn’s X-Men and they don’t like the idea of an Omega-level mutant that won’t tow the company line. Do they have a chance of defeating X-Man? And if they don’t, what does that mean to Osborn’s agenda?

Now that Nate has gotten up to speed on the status quo of the Marvel u since he’s been gone, it should be a bit harder to trick him into a trap.

Nation-X #1 – Tales from the X-Men’s new Utopia

Magneto bonds (and scares) the X-kids. Wolverine sings the praises of… Cyclops? Iceman explains his roles as the X-Men’s class clown via inner monologue. Colossus channels his grief into art.

A mutant nation has been created on UTOPIA, off the coast of California. But what does that mean to the X-Men? Don’t miss the series that delves into the lives and minds of your favorite X-Characters. This issue stars Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler and others!

These sort of character-driven vignettes allow for exploration of the psychological affect of the various x-tragedies since M-Day that have most recently resulted in the creation of the X-Men’ s new island utopia. Some stories were better than others… overall the DCU Holiday was a better anthology.

S.W.O.R.D. #2 – ET Go Home!

Lovin the concept of this series but so far not overwhelmed with it’s excellence. I love Abigail Brand and am interested in reading more about her, so I’m sticking it out for at least 5 issues.

Extraterrestrials are no longer welcome on Earth. So say goodbye to Marvel Boy, Beta Ray Bill, Karolina from the Runaways and a ton of others…including Agent Brand and Lockheed! Henry Gyrich has turned the tables on our heroine and her time as head of S.W.O.R.D. is coming to a close.

I’ve ALSO always hated former Avengers government appointed liaison Henry Peter Gyrich, so once she starts actively working against him (and she’s now going to have to) it should pick up.

New Avengers Annual #3 – to Save Clint Barton

Clint Barton is in custody and that leaves not only Barton’s life in severe jeopardy but all the New Avengers are at serious risk. So the ladies of the Avengers ban together to do what they have to do in a double-sized blockbuster Avengers story with a startling new chapter in the life of Jessica Jones. Brought to you by Brian Michael Bendis and artist extraordinaire Mike Mayhew.

Wonder Woman resumes original numbering at #600

DC asked readers to send in postcards if they wanted to see the amazing amazon’s title reset back to it’s original numbering when it reached its landmark 600th issue. By their Halloween deadline they’d gotten 712 and late entries brought the total close to 800. As of June 2010 Wonder Woman will return to the old numbering with issue #600.

Brad Metzler to empower Buffy and unmask Twilight

Brad Metzler (JLA, Book of Lies) takes over the writing chores on Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight for the penultimate arc of the series running from issue #32 -#35 and leading into a Joss Whedon grand finale.

Editor Scott Allie told CBR that #32’s variant cover homage to Action Comics #1 was Metzler’s idea because ” Buffy’s gained superpowers” which opens up a billion possible comic book geek moments. Looks like she gets to fly.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #32 Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #32 variant cover (homage to Action Comics #1) Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #33 version of the cover to Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight #33 sent to CBR on 120209.

Issue #33 contains the identity of the mysterious Season 8 big bad… Twilight. CBR published the cover on Wednesday, Dec 2 which shows an unmasked Twilight, but blocks out his identity which is to be revealed that issue. Later that day they received another version with the face of President Barack Obama in the place of the obscured face. I’m guessing reader hoax.

Weird Scientists prepare your ceremonial bra hats…

The New Moon toy line has been released and is available at Amazon, but no word on this shirtless action figure of Taylor Lautner as wolf-boy hottie Jacob Black. I hope they haven’t decided not to release it.

NECAs shirtless Jacob Black action figure immortalizes Taylor Lautner's new rockin' bod in plastic

This has to be the hottest action figure I’ve seen in awhile. Fingers crossed it isn’t too gay for shelves. If you have the scoop on when/if it will see the light of day, let’s hear it!

which is gayer… Jacob the shirtless wolfboy… or Gay Bob from 1977?

The world's first Gay doll... Gay Bob was introduced by Gizo Development in 1977 The world's first Gay doll... Gay Bob was introduced by Gizo Development in 1977 The world's first Gay doll... Gay Bob was introduced by Gizo Development in 1977

Too bad Jacob Black doesn’t come anatomically correct (and life size).

and just in case you didn’t get the headline…

Blackest Night: Wonder Woman – Maxwell Lord’s Back!

I was sure that Diana was going to be significantly changed since they showed the blacked out mystery Wonder Woman figure in DC Direct’s Blackest Night series 4. I considered that perhaps she might end up a White Lantern (I have a feeling we still may see some), but the solicited cover on #2 of this 3 issue mini-series cinched it as a White Lantern wouldn’t be fighting Mera.

Black Lantern Maxwell Lord has risen and he seeks revenge and retribution for his death at the hands of Diana. Look for unexpected changes to await Wonder Woman in the course of this series as she plays a major role in the War of Light against the Blackest Night.

Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1 Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1 Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1
Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1 Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1 Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #1

Fan-favorite writer Greg Rucka returns to chronicle the adventures of the Amazing Amazon in the DC Universe’s darkest hour! With the beautiful images of Secret Six artist Nicola Scott!

Any ideas about what the “unexpected changes” could be? I’m still guessing White Lantern since we already saw her as Black Lantern in Blackest Night #4, so having the big surprise be that she turns into a Black Lantern would be no big whoop. But then I’m wrong a lot. That is the problem with guessing.

Double Sized Dark Avengers Annual #1: Marvel Boy!

I’ve been a fan of Noh-Varr since he was first introduced in his self-titled Garth Ennis mini-series Marvel Boy, so I was overjoyed to see him join 616 Marvel continuity as a hero even if it was as Norman Osborn’s Captain Marvel.

Bendis and Bachalo launch from the pages of New Avengers and reunite for this very important chapter in the Dark Avengers saga. Noh-Varr found out he was surrounded by madmen and villains and ran for the hills. But no one gets out of Osborn’s grip that easy…
