Nation-X #2 (Tim Fish’s Northstar Story!!!)

I hope we start to see Northstar be a bit more effective, with his speed, he could be a great asset but he just punches things really fast and ineffectually. He needs a utility belt and some weighted gloves. I like Tim Fish’s work so I’m looking forward to seeing where it’s going… but DO I wish it started with Northstar doing something impressive instead of requiring a rescue from… what are those? warwolves? Where would he run into those? Can they fly?

IN THIS ISSUE: Jubilee returns to the X-Men, Gambit has trouble adjusting to life on Utopia, Northstar deals with the distance that island living necessitates and No-Girl has to save all the X-Men from a foe living right under their noses. Part 2 (of 4)

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

The trailer for director Terry Gilliam’s (Jabberwocky, Time Bandits, Brazil, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) new movie looks pretty spectacular so I’m trying to light a fire under Popapathy and get him to go to the movies today to see Heath Ledger’s final role. I’ll let you know what we think…

A fantastical morality tale set in the present day, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary ‘Imaginarium’, a traveling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr Nick.

Valentina is now rapidly approaching this ‘coming of age’ milestone and Dr Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr Parnassus promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles – and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all

Buffy Season 8’s Big Bad is… Angel?!?!?!

According to an interview with CBR, “Buffy” editor Scott Allie has known that Angel was Twilight since January 2006. He was “quick to note” that while the identity of the “Big Bad” (a term originated by Joss Whedon to describe a larger enemy that is confronted at the end of the season) is not a secret anymore, there were still plenty of surprises in store for comic writer/novelist Brad Meltzer’s arc on the series (starting in February’s #32) which will be followed by the return of Buffy creator Joss Whedon.

Buffy Season 8: Volume 7

Allie stressed that assuming a flat out battle between Buffy and Angel was the next step in the story would be wrong. “Right now it feels to everybody on the outside like, ‘Oh, the cat’s out of the bag! Twilight is Angel!’ but the question [of how the end game rolls out that] all the fans are asking is not really the right question. If this was any other book and Twilight was any other villain, that would be the question to ask. But the question right now is ‘How does Buffy react to the fact that Twilight is Angel?’ It’s not as simple anymore as ‘Now we’ve got to deal with the bad guy.’

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #34 Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #34romantic variant

Not sure if this is another fake out like the Obama cover last month, but it seems awfully elaborate if so… Dark Horse has released 2 covers for Buffy the Vampire Season 8’s #34 which is supposed to reveal the identity of the big bad whose been a thorn in their side since #1, and its Angel! Or is it Angelus? We’ll see. The interviews sound pretty official, I don’t think they are kidding this time.
