Even though it’s been FAR too long since the Young Avengers have had a title of their own, they’ve been the focus of a limited title during the past two mega events (Civil Way and Secret Invasion) and The Siege is no exception. Instead of a mini-series it will just be a one shot, but this time they aren’t sharing it with The Runaways (who seem noticeably absent of late). We saw them arrive at the battle alongside the likes of Captain America, but what happens once they find themselves on the frontline of a war between Gods and supermen? Read Siege: Young Avengers to find out!
Fans of Wiccan should be happy. Writer Sean McKeever says he gets the most time on-panel of the group, but everyone will get some attention. Also mentioned was a reminder that Wiccan’s original codename was “Asgardian” for a reason and we’ll be learning it here. PLUS They are taking on The Wrecking Crew!!! I love the look of these pencils from artist Mahmud Asrar. Looked like he was influenced by Alan Davis.
FINALLY! All the back and forth “I’m gonna kill you” flirting (which I read like the psychopath’s version of pulling pigtails at recess) between Wolverine’s openly bi son Daken and his murderous teammate Bullseye a.k.a. Hawkeye is going to pay off with a kiss.
SIEGE BLOCKBUSTER TIE-IN!! Daken has been given glimpses of the life he could have-as well as the lives he might destroy-and the time for a choice is finally at hand.
Will he become a force for good…or reign as a king in Hell?
In the midst of The Siege, Bullseye is about to bolt when Daken true to the amoral rogue he is, plants on on him right there on the battlefield! I’m guessing its just because he has bigger fish to fry that Bullseye doesn’t try to kill him for it there and then… but what if he liked it? Maybe he goes both ways too?

Just in case you missed out the first time around or wanted to refresh your memory before V restarts on March 30th. The 1st episode is only available for another 2 days so watch quick! Whether you were a fan of the original or are too young to remember it, this series is really interesting and has a great cast. I see definite potential here. I’d say it’s second only to Caprica in the current sci-fi TV Show area.
Looks like the New Mutants will be getting involved with The Siege. We knew that Hela doesn’t give anything for free. Now Dani is beholden to her and there are plenty of Asgardian souls awaiting a Valkyrie to guide them into Hel and Moonstar is elected.
SIEGE BLOCKBUSTER TIE-IN!! Back in DARK AVENGERS/UNCANNY X-MEN:UTOPIA, Dani Moonstar made a deal with Hela. Now, the mistress of Hel is calling in her marker. With all the Asgardians falling in the Siege of Asgard, someone needs to deal with the dead.
And who better to do so than a Valkyrie. But where is Dani supposed to be bringing these dead? Brought to you by a guest creative team of Kieron Gillen (THOR, S.W.O.R.D.) and Niko Henrichon (PRIDE OF BAGHDAD).
I hope Danielle Moonstar retains some of her recently regained Asgardian might once the dust settles. She’s a great character and while she has proved herself more than capable as a human, I like her better without such a big chip on her shoulder.
Sue Sylvester has to be one of the best characters you love to hate since Alexis on Dynasty. Is it wrong that I want to see her and Mr Schuster have a knock down drag out fight in a fountain? I’m looking forward to seeing her foiled again and again.
I can’t wait for new episodes of GLEE to start up in April!!!
Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson together again as the figure out their place in the heroic age in this special post Dark Reign One Shot.
Spinning out of X-MEN: NATION X! Cloak — dark, brooding teleporter. Dagger — deadly, shining mistress of light. Having quit the Dark X-Men, Cloak and Dagger find their partnership strained as they struggle to fit in among the mutants of Utopia. But when a new menace targets Cloak, Dagger must make a fateful choice for both of them.
Guest-starring the X-Men, and written by Stuart Moore (WOLVERINE NOIR) with stunning art by Mark Brooks (YOUNG AVENGERS).
I’ve loved these two since I read the original Rick Leonardi drawn miniseries in 1983.
The speculation over who is worthy to wear the star-spangled pajamas is APPARENTLY over. After much deliberation and alleged consideration of actors ranging from Brad Pitt to John Krasinski, the shield of Captain America will be held high by Chris Evans.
If Chris Evans is fighting a battle against super typecasting, he is losing. Not that I mind! There was much talk this weekend after The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Evans would be the new Captain America in both the First Avenger and Avengers movies. There still hasn’t been an official announcement from Evans or Marvel, but according to Newsarama, Iron Man director/Avengers producer Jon Favreau tweeted “Welcome to the new Captain. He continues the fine tradition of playing two Marvel characters!” It is a tradition he himself furthered by playing Foggy Nelson in Daredevil and Happy Hogan in Iron Man.
I’ll not be alone in my happiness at seeing him buffed up the physical perfection as the star spangled Avenger and although the life of WWII era Steve Rogers will require some acting chops, I think Chris Evans can step up to the task. He kind of played Johnny Storm for laughs, but Captain America is a grim-faced boy scout and the biggest ass-kicker alive and will require a MUCH different approach.
Besides donning spandex for Marvel previously as Johnny Storm a.k.a. the Human Torch in Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Sequel, Chris Evans also played powered in Push. In Push, Evans’ character Nick Grant is a “mover” who can move things with his mind and fights against corporate abuse of superhumans like himself. Although Push didn’t start out as a comic, it DID inspire one. In 2010 Chris Evans will portray spikey haired hacker Cpl. Jake Jensen in The Losers which is adapted from the Vertigo comic. The Losers is an explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge centering around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent on a search and destroy mission in the Bolivian jungle. Also ripped from the 4-color pages and due in 2010 is Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Evans will play Lucas Lee, one of the evil ex boyfriends that title character Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) must defeat in order to date Ramona V. Flowers.

Secret Warriors #14 provides a few more clues to the puzzle that is slowly unraveling in this intrigue-laden series. We already found out that longtime Nick Fury love Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is one of the heads of HYDRA. Now we see that even before she became S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA, she (and her COMMUNIST family) was part of the recently awakened Leviathan. Why have the mysterious Leviathan and its hunky ginger leader Orion been slumbering since the cold war?
I think Orion should stick with the naked look, but the armor is fairly badass. And yes that IS Viper’s dead body on the cover of Secret Warriors #16!
The secret history of Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine: How did Nick Fury’s significant other end up working for the hated HYDRA and what’s the even more sinister dark secret buried deep in her past? It’s part four of WAKE THE BEAST and a major turning point for several of our most loved, and hated, characters. Don’t miss it!
Secret Warriors has consistently been one of my top books since its first issue. Which is no mean feat in this day of epic mega crossovers. If you haven’t been reading it, pick up the trade paperbacks to catch up on Nick Fury’s new relevance as the dust settles around recent revelations about the history of espionage in the Marvel U.
Of course he does. We knew they’d taken token gay JSA member Obsidian away for a reason, but that still doesn’t make it OK. When Todd was taken away after being turned into a black egg by Kid Karnevil did ANYONE call his long term super-boyfriend Damon Matthews? First introduced in the pages of Manhunter, Damon Matthews is Kate Spencer’s law partner and the loving life partner of Todd Rice. The two were seen to have adopted a daughter in the future. Is poor Damon sitting at home wondering what happened to his man? I think if a straight character with a longstanding relationship went missing for a prolonged period, SOMEONE would tell them, right?
The war takes a turn for the worse for the JSA as the enemy fires up their super power-negating “Darkness Engine.” But the terror rises when the team learns that the machine is powered by the black egg that used to be their colleague Obsidian!
Well whether anyone informed Damon or not, Obsidian will hopefully be returned to active duty after the JSA routs the latest band of evil supernazis to attempt a fourth reich. The whole JSA vs supernazi’s has been done to death. I just want to get past this arc and get Todd back to his worried boyfriend.
And think about it. A raving and oft-drunken horndog like Herc (can you say 6 beer queer?) just might have taken Jean-Paul up on a super speed hummer if they ever crossed paths. I can’t think of a time they shared an adventure ON PANEL… Anyone? I wonder if Northstar’s boyfriend Kyle knows his superhero boyfriend has bedded a demigod?
I’ve been dying to see what happens now that we saw Sinestro grab the white ring. What has he become? What does the White ring do? Can he retain the power? How far will Hal Jordan do to take it from him? Why was the White Lantern source entity hidden for so long?
GREEN LANTERN #52, the penultimate chapter of BLACKEST NIGHT featuring the universe’s most surprising White Lantern on its cover, courtesy of writer Geoff Johns and artist Doug Mahnke.
I’ve really enjoyed the friendship between Betty’s best frenemy Marc and her showtune-loving nephew Justin (played adorably by Mark Indelicato). After Justin’s dad died a few seasons ago it was natural for him to look to Marc as kind of a mentor.
More Justin/Marc clips after the jump. I was a bit thrown when he started talking to Marc about the girl he liked named Lily, but it all made sense this episode as Justin gets his first gay kiss. While Dawson’s Creek beat them to the title of “first gay teen kiss on primetime,” its still a big deal!!!
I hope they give Justin and his new friend Austin a happy ending before the show ends. As it stands I think Austin is embarrassed because HE kissed Justin, and although Justin definitely kissed him back, he didn’t stop Austin from leaving. Its so great that this kind of programming exists and it gives me great hope for the coming generation of gay youth. Closest we got in my day was Matt Fielding’s offscreen kiss on Melrose Place v1.
Betty should have her braces off in the next few episodes and her transformation will be complete. She won’t be Ugly Betty anymore, so it makes sense to end it I suppose. But I’ve loved the show since the beginning so I’ll be sorry to see it vanish. I hope we can keep well written shows on the air in this reality crazed market.
It looks like there is a lot in store for X-Factor, but first Monet and Strong Guy are taking a detour deep into an unknown South American jungle in a desperate gambit to rescue Cartier St. Croix from a terrorist group.
And what exactly do the terrorists want? They want Monet, as it turns out. And you’ll never guess who’s behind it all.
After that it looks like we have some sort of government group in 204 and BASTION in 205!
Spotted these hot pics of MTV Real World alum turned fitness guru / underwear model… Scott Herman showing off his sexy spandex Captain America outfit over at WickedGayBlog and had to share. I have to say he is definitely surpassing the average costumed fanboy geek in that spandex. He should wear it to San Diego Comicon and show the fanboys how its done.
I wonder if he’s into costumes or is just a Captain America fan. Probably a fan as he has a Cap Shield in his home. Of course seeing these pics sent me searching the net for more info and I found this video to REALLY make it interesting. It’s a good thing Scott Herman is hot. He misspelled “Nothing” on the preview frame of his video.
after the jump there’s a little bonus… his videos on how to shave your chest and his follow up requested by fans on how to shave your groin.
As if there wasn’t enough shit going down in the Marvel U… while Captain America and the rest of his “friends” and President Obama FINALLY take on the direct threat to humanity represented by Norman Osborne and his Dark Avengers, the Mighty Avengers are STILL completely unaware that Ultron is about to strike again. When Jocasta has a glitch… WORRY.
SIEGE BLOCKBUSTER TIE-IN!! THE AVENGERS’ GREATEST THREAT RETURNS! AND HE’S NOT ALONE… A rag-tag team of Mighty Avengers are thrust onto the front lines of SIEGE…with no one to lead them! And where’s HANK PYM? Trapped in Pym-Space with his greatest enemy, his sinister cybernetic “son”, ULTRON!
A war on two fronts, a team divided, and when it’s over…not everyone will be coming back! Big threats, big changes, and the biggest Avengers surprise of them all revealed!
Let’s hope they don’t kill too many Asgardian toddlers to motivate Thor.
A GUEST REVIEW FROM FROGBOY (A FRIEND OF FANBOI): Greetings! I’m Frogboy; a graphic artist and longtime friend of HnH and QueerSupe’s site proprietor, Fanboi. We both share a love of toys and action figures, but usually in different areas. I’ve been waiting for the release of this little guy since seeing the prototype photo last year. Now he’s out and here’s my review. Hope to be doing more of these in the future.
The second wave of Twilight: New Moon figures are out and I just got my hands on the most anticipated selection, the iconic shirtless inaction figure of actor Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. Early photography of the prototype looked stunning, the actual figure is a little less so, yet still attractive. The articulation is limited to his head and feet. The arms are added separately, but remain glued in place to help maintain the sculptural integrity.
Click the pic of the unopened figure to buy the figure at Fanboi’s QueerSUPE Amazon store. Click on the Jacob Black photo or the turnaround to see them fullsize.
There’s a little airbrushing on the torso and his nipples are dotted with color. The character’s trademark abs are definitely present, but this likeness isn’t quite as chiseled and cut as Jacob appears in the motion picture. The jeans and shoes have the amount of detail collectors have come to expect from NECA.
It’s hard to imagine Lautner without his big toothy-white grin these days, but the Jacob mostly scowls in the film as he does here on the figure. The paint apps are particularly fine, yet his eyes look a little on the Asian side. By the way, has anyone pinned down the mysterious ethnicity of Taylor Lautner? The facial likeness looks best at an angle or in profile than head-on. We’ve been seeing this beautiful mug on posters and billboards for a year now, you’d think the sculptor at NECA would get this spot-on.
I predict this to be one of the iconic action figures to define this era in pop culture. Even though the Lautner is a sexier fellow than depicted here, NECA’s series two shirtless Jacob Black figure is definitely worth getting before the price goes up.
Altogether I’d give this figure 3.75 out of 5 stars.

I’m guessing Magneto and Gambit are competing for her hand? But neither would be shocking, so then who? She doesn’t really have much history with anyone else.
Rogue has survived a lot in her day, but can she survive the men warring for her heart? It’s not the first time several men have courted the Southern Belle, but it is the first time she can actually do anything about it. Who will she chose? You’ll be shocked!

Um why isn’t Doop dead? He died in the last X-Statix adventure and then Polaris and Havok of the X-Men encountered a Doop-like entity they called Daap that crashed to Earth from outer space. Havok eventually blasts it to pieces. Its amorphous jelly-like remains began to knit itself back together and flew off, but where did he go and how did he get to Utopia? The Marvel Handbook officially states that Doop and Daap ARE in fact the same being.
All the pieces fall into place as this final issue concludes with a bang! Namor has never taken orders from anyone before, so why does he take them from Cyclops? Where does Emma get all those Jimmy Choo’s? And when a mystery strikes Utopia, who does Cyclops send to solve it? DOOP!
This recently revealed sketchbook about Marvel’s new book shedding light on the actions of the organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. throughout history looks REALLY interesting. I’m not sure if it is a mini or a new ongoing. My money is on 6 issue miniseries.
Do not miss this Marvel Comics masterpiece that fans will be talking about for decades to come. All the insanity is courtesy of JONATHAN HICKMAN (FANTASTIC FOUR, SECRET WARRIORS, Nightly News) and DUSTIN WEAVER (X-MEN)
It seems like they are turning S.H.I.E.L.D. into an ancient Illuminati-like organization. If done well this could completely rock. The sketchbook reveals a fascinating cast, I can’t wait to see how they all fit together.
