In this coming of middle age comedy, a once-successful novelist (Jeff Daniels), constantly attended by the imaginary superhero (a cheesed up spandex-clad Ryan Reynolds) who has been his pal since he was a kid, struggles to recover what made him great while watching his marriage fail.
Ryan Reynolds looks great as a platinum blond Superhero. I’m sure he’ll portray Hal Jordan a bit more seriously in his upcoming Green Lantern movie. This IS a comedy and he’s playing more of a parody of a Superhero than a real one. But at least we get an idea of how he fills out a pair of tights. I approve.
So what will she do next? Sounds like Nick Fury Agent of Nothing is going to be getting some face time with his old flame, former S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Contessa Valentina Allegra De La Fontaine and will soon become aware of her true allegiances.
Nick Fury comes face-to-face with his greatest betrayal in this all-important issue of Secret Warriors. Break-ups, hook-ups and more! It’s Sex and the City meets Reservoir Dogs. It’s Sleepless in Seattle meets Full Metal Jacket. It’s part five of WAKE THE BEAST – featuring the secret history of Viper!
I know some people hate retconned stories, but I’m still loving this secret history of spying in the Marvel U. I’ve ALWAYS loved Nick Fury, so its really great to see him back in action. AND Yes I’m still hoping the writers will eventually reveal Stonewall is a card carrying “friend of Northstar.”
CrazySexyGeeks host Alan Kistler and Project Runway guru / Liz Claiborne CEO Tim Gunn conclude their fascinating discussion on the do’s and don’ts of superhero fashion as they pass judgment on the costumes of: Superman, Superboy, Robin, Nightwing and the Hulk!
I love that Tim Gunn took the time to do this, and generally can’t say I disagree with most of his comments. The man has a lot going on and still sits down with CrazySexyGeeks to talk Superhero Spandex. I’ll be sure to share any future costume discussions that I find.
I was wondering how the Demigod Phobos will take the death of his father Ares at the hands of the Sentry. I think we’ll be finding out just how tough little Alex is. I hope he gets a moment with Norman Osborn and gets him to soil himself in fear.
Nick Fury’s plans are revealed in Siege: Secret Warriors, from the team of Jonathan Hickman and Alessandro Vitti!
I would LOVE to see Osborn dead for what he’s done to the Marvel U over his Dark Reign. But I think this new Heroic Age will demand justice not vengeance, so I’m putting money on a treason trial. I’d still like to see him get his ass handed to him first.

The GayComicGeek launched a NEW channel (GayGeekyVlogs) at YouTube a few weeks ago and as usual he is speaking my thoughts out loud. Do I need a tinfoil hat? He shares his wishes for a gay geek posse and his fortune at having a boyfriend who lets him cram his hobby down his throat.”
If you consider yourself a “Gay Geek” please identify what “type” of geek and your general geographical area. Anonymous comments welcome as always. More interested in random hellos.
Ive been having similar thoughts lately. I’m lucky enough to have a wonderful boyfriend who tolerates my interests, and even embraces some of them. He became quite a fan of Dollhouse, Heroes and is really loving Dr. Who, Caprica and Battlestar Galactica… but I still haven’t gotten him to really read any of my comics. I wish I had more real life gay geek friends to shoot the shit with about the topics I raise here. Though if I did, I suppose I wouldn’t have had to make the blog. I’ve met a number local gay geeks at Whatever Comics in the Castro… Where do YOU meet gay geeks?

Fabrizio Fiorentino early pencils and covers for TITANS: VILLAINS FOR HIRE. I still don’t love the idea of a bunch of villains running around with Deathstroke under the Titan’s logo. I do like Slade Wilson and LOVE Cheshire so I’ll be giving it a shot. I don’t see how the recently resurrected Osiris adds much to the team but raw power. He was inexperienced and naive enough to get tricked to death by a big bio-engineered alligator, so he’ll have to nut up to run with this crowd.
Generally the art looks good, but I miss Cheshire’s original asymmetrical Perez-era costume. We still don’t know who firechickie is. I didn’t follow the Crisis aftermath Ink series (drawn by Fabrizio Fiorentino), so I don’t really know what happened therein to the Tattooed Man. Did I miss much?
So if you appreciate all the work I do on this blog AND you are a fan of any of the above, PLEASE stop by the Animated Heroes section and see the best current and classic Superhero Animation available on DVD.
After Kevin defeats Jughead in a burger eating contest at Pop’s Chocklit Shoppe, she desperately latches onto him. Mayhem and hilarity ensue as Kevin desperately attempts to let Veronica down easy and her flirtations only become increasingly persistent.
Well you know where there’s one of us, there’s more. Lets hope Kevin get a boyfriend eventually. Maybe by 2020 if he’s lucky. Will he have a crush on Archie too? Do Betty and Veronica have competition? If you think about it, they’ve both been after him for so long and neither has gotten him to put a ring on it. Maybe he’s just been waiting for the right guy.
Now we get the story behind last week’s Sue Sylvester Vogue video, among other things. The students and faculty alike embraced the power of Madonna in what Popapathy referred to as “the best episode yet.” It seems Madonna is Sue Sylvester’s touchstone. I’m not exactly sure, but it seemed that that video was actually produced in show continuity by Kurt and Mercedes.
I still would have liked to see more Kurt and Puck, but I’m thinking they’ll get to shine in due time. This definitely stepped up the game from last week’s Hello.
A SECOND COMING – REVELATIONS TIE-IN! You’re Bolivar Trask, the reanimated leader of the Mutant Response Division. Your mission: Kill every member of X-Factor. How to accomplish that without collateral damage?
Easy: hire the team for what seems to be a routine case that will send them into a certain death trap. Problem solved.
Um, that is unless you hand a gifted psychometric the cash. Madrox is smart. Longshot would know Absorbing Man was sending them into a trap. By the way why the fuck is Creel on the streets of New York anyway? He was taken down in Mighty Avengers.
Now I wish THIS had been the Teen Titans cartoon series. I hated that anime travesty. This looks a lot more like what I wanted for DC’s legacy teens… something that has more in common with Justice League Unlimited than Pokemon. YOUNG JUSTICE is an all-new series from DC Entertainment and produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
In YOUNG JUSTICE, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over – to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you’re not just a normal teenager? What if you’re a teenage super hero? How much harder will it be to prove yourself in a world of super powers, super villains and super secrets?
Are you ready to come of age in such a world? Are you ready for life or death rites of passage? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you’re worthy of the Justice League?
They list Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis (a reimagined Arrowette? or is it Wonder Girl Cassie Sandsmark? I think the former) as the members of Young Justice. So who’s the guy in the lower right corner? Is that Soul Man Aqualad? Why is he the most prominently featured? He looks like the affirmative action character Spyke that Marvel added to that X-Men series a few years back. If they want to be more multicultural why not include Cyborg? or Thunder? or Lightning? (from Outsiders and JSA) OR Static? Will we see other Young Justice allies like Secret, Empress or L’il Lobo?
Not really loving the cargo pants on Conner, but I generally like the look of the rest.
If you were just thinking that Uncanny X-Men, X-Men Legacy, X-Factor, X-Force, New Mutants and any number of different one shots about x-folk every month just isn’t enough, then boy are you in for a treat!
X-Men #1 debuts in July from writer Victor Gischler and artist Paco Medina. This new X-Title “firmly integrates the X-Men in the Marvel Universe, boasting new team-members from across the Marvel Universe as the X-Men contend with a host of threats — including some of Marvel’s most popular super-villains.”
The first arc will pit mutants against another society of super-powered outcasts: vampires. The X-Men have some history with Dracula. It’s about to come back and haunt them when San Francisco is invaded by a horde of vampires led by a… let’s just say, a very enigmatic leader with a diabolical plan. What do these vampires want?
I’m happy to see Nate Grey among their ranks, but I just don’t know about this one. They only sold me on Astonishing because it was Joss Whedon, but I’ve lost interest. I just don’t think I will pick up all 3 X titles.

Project Runway’s resident captain of the fashion police, Tim Gunn discusses the fashion of the super-hero costumes worn by: Mr. Miracle, Star Sapphire, Power Girl, Catwoman, Spider-Man and Batwoman with comic book/pop culture historian Alan Kistler for Crazy Sexy Geeks.
If you want to see other comic related videos featuring Tim Gunn, there are a few more after the jump…
I’d love to see Tim submit some spandex redesigns to one of ProjectRooftop’s costume art contests. I featured winners of their Dynamic Do Over and Superman Man of Style contests. And I’ll be sure the soon to be revealed winners of their current Canary on the Catwalk costume contest to replace Black Canary’s old fishnets.
Fans of the original Young Avengers creative team of Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung will be happy to hear the pair are finally reuniting for a 9 issue limited series featuring the team they created. The concepts for Avengers: The Children’s Crusade were originally planned for Young Avengers with Scarlet Witch, and will “address the question of parentage.”
Heinberg: The story is largely told from Wiccan’s point of view, and it attempts to explore the idea that sometimes the line between hero and villain is a very thin one, depending on which side you’re standing on. In my experience, no one is ever purely good or purely evil. The Scarlet Witch is a perfect example. She’s always been a ambiguous figure in the Marvel Universe. She started out as part of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, then she became an Avenger, then she tried to destroy the Avengers. So, in the end, is she a hero or a villain? Jim and I thought it was important the Young Avengers wrestle with the idea that, even in a super-powered world of ostensible heroes and villains, it’s not always easy to tell one from the other.
Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch and the Avengers play an enormous role in the story (YAY!!!) which involves not only Avengers, but the mutant community as well. Expect some exciting fallout from as far back as House of M, Decimation AND Disassembled. Issue number six is being currently scripted. All nine scripts should be done by July (which could be the first issue date). It’s “emotional and intimate” for a big event. I hope this really brings the Scarlet Witch back to the forefront of the Marvel U.
Q&A at the C2E2 Brightest Day panel has shed some light on some aspects of the unfolding saga. As previously revealed, each of the 12 resurrectees will be a major part of the biweekly series and will also be a major part of the titles bearing the Brightest Day imprint.
Each image has the full solicit for the issue as a caption so check them out for further details and hints about what lies in store for the DCU.
Jade will be in JLA as writer James Robinson definitively explains how the Starheart energy that her and her father and brother’s powers fits into the green lantern mythos. Hawk will be ruffling feathers over in Birds of Prey as they set up shop in Gotham (in new watchtower?). The new Green Arrow series carries the Brightest Day imprint due to the strange forest that appeared in Star City in the Zero Issue prelude. Geoff John’s would only say enigmatically “There’s stuff going on in that forest.” Max Lord will be the focus of Justice League Generation Lost as his old cronies in the JLI are the only people who still remember him now that he made eveyone else forget. Captain Boomerang and Reverse Flash will be bedeviling Barry Allen in his new Flash title.

Bryan Safi, the adorably outspoken host of Current TV’s regular feature “That’s Gay” is sassy as ever as he explains the plight of a Mississippi teen who had the audacity to want to dance with her girlfriend at her prom, only to find herself first excluded and then shamelessly deceived by a school representative into attending a sham prom while other students attended the “real” prom.
Safi didn’t mention the happy ending to the story. The Mississippi Safe Schools Coalition is throwing a special gay-friendly prom in May with help from The American Humanist Association, Green Day, Lance Bass, Cat Cora and many others who were moved by the unfair and hateful treatment Constance McMillen endured from her school district in Mississippi. In addition to that she received a $30,000 scholarship from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and will be serving as one of the Grand Marshalls for the 2010 NYC Gay Pride Parade June 27.
I just got back from seeing Kick Ass and OMG it truly rocked. I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me. It generally managed to be remarkably true to the spirit of the comic while still throwing in new twists and surprises that weren’t part of the original story to keep those who had read the story guessing. I don’t really want to give away any spoilers about it. It is that good. They really did a great job of capturing the dark humor of the series.
Those of you who have seen it will know what I mean when I say that the changes in the relationship between Dave and Katie were good but not as “real” as the way things unfolded in the comic. But not only did these and the other changes did make it a more entertaining movie (especially the big finish), but they also improved on the source material. I know some people (including myself) didn’t like the unnecessary homophobic hate speech that cropped up a few times in the book. But not to worry, there was none of that in the movie.
Hit-Girl was phenomenal (her sequences were blindingly violent and a thing of beauty. I was surprised that Nick Cage (who I’ve never liked all that much) was really good as well.
It is a genuine hit. Here’s what HNH favorite The GayComicGeek has to say about it.
As usual he’s right on the money. Though I actually enjoyed the occasional cheesier moments as they seemed very intentional to me and worked well with to way the film sometimes lapses into a parody of itself and the genre in genre. LOVED IT!
Also check out what CBR and everyone else has to say too… it got an average of “B+” but only because one hopelessly square asshole at the Chicago Sun-Times didn’t get the point. … Time, San Francisco Chronicle, IGN, Variety and Empire all gave it an “A.” I give it an A+! Run don’t walk to the next screening!
Its a big week for Avengers revelations… We’ve already seen the students enrolled at Avengers Academy. But now Marvel has announced the faculty: Speedball, Quicksilver, Tigra, Wasp and Justice.
I like the core membership, but hope we’ll be seeing guest stars regularly as there are some definite holes in areas of expertise…
Marvel has revealed the mystery line-up of the Secret Avengers… The covert team will be lead by Steve Rogers (sporting a new look… but does it come with a new name?) and consists of: Nova, Valkyrie, Beast, War Machine and Moon Knight. Hmmm, didn’t see Nova coming.
Now that we know WHO they are, I suppose the big question is… what is their mission?
I’m still bothered by the fact that Ms Marvel is absent from ALL the Avengers rosters. What is she doing? I DID see her on a cover of the upcoming Thanos event so hopefully she isn’t going to die in the last issue of Siege.
Ricky Martin’s recent coming out has made him a hot topic. So let’s see just how hot he is as he poses while animated tats stream over his nude body.
I like it, but I have no idea what any of it means. Can anyone tell me what the animated tattoos and final message says? This was apparently recorded 3 years ago for a tour, but now that he’s out-n-proud it DOES seem new.
